Our story hours are for pre-school ages three (3) to five (5) years old. Early literacy practices are taught such as letter and number recognition, shapes, colors, and more. We read at least two books during story hour, followed by a fun craft that aids in the learning process.

Every Monday night for six (6) weeks, parents and children can attend programs that will teach basic skills and concepts that educators are screening for. Our annual Trick 'O Treat Parade will take place Friday, October 31st @ 10:00 a.m. Parents and Guardians are encouraged to dress up their child and bring them to the library for a photograph that will be featured in the Citizen-Times Newspaper. After the picture, Mrs. Amanda will lead the children with their adult(s) to the downtown businesses located on Scottsville's beautiful square. It is a fun time, not only for the library and their valued patrons, but also for our local business partners.

Find out moreCool Kids Book Club is a weekly program that children of all ages can attend. Mrs. Amanda chooses a title that is then read aloud each week as a group. After 40-45 minutes of reading, a small writing activity takes place that reviews what we read during the meeting. These writing activities help establish the setting of the story, as well as thinking critically about the events that have taken place. Find out moreToddler Time is for babies and toddlers up to three (3) years old. We try to get the little ones to sit still for 15 - 20 minutes. During this time Mrs. Amanda plays music on her musical octopus, reads big books like "Barnyard Banter", "I Went Walking", "Owl Babies", and sings songs with the help of her froggy puppet. After we read together, the music is turned up and the children are able to socialize. Benefits that can be learned from this program are sharing, working on motorskills, patience, and being friendly towards one another.

During monthly meetings Ms. Jamie asks for input from our local teenagers to help promote and support the Allen County Public Library. Find out moreSummer Reading Registration is now taking place. Registrants will receive their summer reading bag which includes a reading log, timed log, book mark, and a schedule of events. Reading logs must be completed through the summer months including title of the book and approximate minutes read per session. Summer Reader participants are required to read at least two hours per week. Those who complete and turn in reading logs will receive incentives and be entered into a drawing to win a Kindle Fire.

Find out more"Come and discover your inner master builder." Once a month, your child can come to the library to build their own Lego creations. Children will be separated into age groups. This program will take place the 3rd Saturday of every month from 11:00 - 12:30. Lego creations may be displayed throughout the library for three weeks. Our patrons will vote on their favorites. Each month, a winner will be announced. Everyone will have a chance to win prizes by attending. Legos will be provided.
