Allen County Library News – July 5, 2023

The library building is open to the public on Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am – 7:00 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Summer Reading is moving right along. We have programs and prizes for library patrons of all ages. It’s not too late to sign up. We still have programs scheduled through the end of July.

Did you know the average child loses two months of reading skills over the summer? You can help avoid the slide by registering your child for Summer Reading and encouraging your child to read for twenty minutes daily. We have thousands of books from which to choose. There’s something for everyone at the Allen County Public Library.

Our favorite Science Guy is back on Tuesday, July 11, at 1:00 pm! Jason Lindsey with Hooked on Science will be doing some amazing science experiments. “Mr. Science” is a nationally recognized STEM educator, science multimedia journalist, digital meteorologist, and author. Even if your child didn’t register for summer reading, he/she is welcome to attend.

Adults are invited to join us for Trivia Night on Tuesday evening, July 11, at 5:30 pm. The winning team of two will receive a $25 gift card.

Teens are invited to participate in a Scavenger Hunt on Thursday, July 13, at 2:00 pm. Do you have what it takes to find all the hidden items associated with local businesses and Allen County’s history. Participants will have the chance to win a prize.

Join us on the porch for First Friday on July 7, 2023, for a mini-flash book sale from 6:00– 8:00 pm. Gently used books will be $1.00 per bag. Stop by early for the best selections.

Have you ever thought about joining the Friends of the Library? Being a Friend of the Library allows you to volunteer for library activities and services. Friends promote public awareness of the library, activities, and services. Most importantly, members serve as advocates for the library. Applications to join our Friends of the Library will be available at our First Friday event.

To get a free library card, call 270-237-3861 or stop by the library with a photo I.D. and a recently postmarked piece of mail. Then you’ll be able to check out or download library materials. Also, if there’s a particular book, movie, or music artist you would like added to the collection, please let us know. We’ll do our best to fulfill your requests.
