Library News July 29

Thanks to Ms. Amanda and Ms. Jamie for a great summer reading program. Fizz, Boom Bang ended with a BANG! We had 258 children and 28 teens register for Summer Reading. Congratulations to Kendal Felder and Timothy Spearman who won Kindle Fires. In all, 107 kids turned in reading logs. Over 200 children attended each of the six special children’s programs.

Thanks to Ms. Delonda and Ms. Abbie for a successful Camp Wonderopolis.  We had 16 families register and attend the six week program. Congratulations to Daphica Woods who won the prize drawing for the Kindle Fire. A big THANK YOU to the Friends of the Library for providing the Kindle Fires.

Mr. Wilson’s head will not turn red unless another fourteen kids from the Primary Center visit the library before school starts. Only 286 Primary Center Students have signed up for the Buggy Book Club and the goal is 300. Mr. Wilson will have to spend a day on the roof if 300 of the children check out books this summer at the library.

The library has signed up for an additional digital book collection. One Click Digital offers many popular audio books that are always available.  Check out our website at www.allencountylibrary.com and click on the “Digital Books” tab. You’ll never have to wait to download the books you check out from One Click Digital.

New books for juvenile and young adults include: Starbird Murphy and the World Outside by Finney Frock, Girls Like Us by Gail Gile, Treaties, Trenches, Mud, and Blood by Nathan Hale, The Boundless by Kenneth Oppel, Other Bound by Corinne Duyvis, Expiration Day by William Campbell Powell, Through the Woods by Emily Carroll, On the Road to Find Out by Rachel Toor, Surrounded by Sharks by Michael Northrop, The Glass Sentence by S.E. Grove, and No Summit Out of Sight by Jorand Romero.

New books on the adult fiction shelf include: The Competition by Marcia Clark, Sting of the Drone by Richard Clark, Night Heron by Adam Brooks, The Steady Running of the Hour by Jusitin Go, The Blonde by Anna Dodbersen, The Stories We Tell byPatti Callahan Henry, The Book of Unknown Americans by Christian Henrequez, Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey, The Sleepwalkers Guide to Dancing by Mira Jacon, The Sea Garden by Deborah Lawrenson, Dollbaby by Laura Lane, Everything I Never Told You by Shirley Jackson, The Directive by Matthew Quirk, and The Girl in 6E by AR. Torre.

New movies this week include: Heaven is for Real starring Greg Kinnear and Thomas Haden Church, Sabotage starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sam Worthington, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn starring Robin Williams and Mila Kuni, Transcendence starring Johnny Depp, Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club, The Dance based on the Novel When Call the Heart by Janette Oke, and Antboy stasrring Oscar Diet.

These are a few of the new items available to check out for free at the Allen County Public Library. The library also offers over 75,000 digital e-books and over 18,000 audio books that you can download directly to your computer or electronic device. The digital collection includes over 10,000 video downloadable units, and don’t forget the library subscribes 39 digital magazines (past months issues are also available).

To borrow books, movies or music from the library, simply get a library card. Library cards are free.  You need a photo I.D. and a recently postmarked piece of mail.  If there’s a special book, movie, or music artist you would like to see offered, please let us know.
