Summer reading is over, and we would like to thank all the parents and guardians who brought their children to the library this summer. A total of 394 children submitted reading logs and earned free gift cards to McDonald’s, Sonic, and Dairy Queen. We estimate that they logged 4,416 hours of reading during the summer reading. Way to go, kids.

We also had 69 teens participate in summer reading. Congratulations to Aaliyah Thomas, Jayden Thomas, Lelend Loyd, Blakely, and Julie Hogue, who won gift cards.

An amazing 138 adults registered for our summer reading programs, our highest participation to date. Congratulations to Rhonda Warden, Delonday McCoy, and Roxanne Johnston, who won themed gift baskets.

Our regular programming will resume in September. Summer reading is winding down. On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Need More Acres Farm will be our guest speakers. Kids will learn about and sample a variety of colorful vegetables. Kids who turned in their reading logs on time will also be awarded $5 gift cards from McDonald’s, Dairy Queen, and Sonic. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, and guardians for signing up their kids for summer reading and verifying their reading logs. We’ve had over 550 kids participate in summer reading as well as 69 teens, and 139 adults. Library workers have been busier than bees keeping up with all the books circulating through the community.

At two o’clock, following the Need More Acres program, Fire Chief Michael Cooksey will replace the flag in front of the library. This will be a great opportunity for kids to see a fire engine up close and personal. We are thankful to Chief Cooksey and all the firefighters in Allen County.

The Library will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025. Unless it’s a holiday, the library is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Summer reading is passing fast!  This year’s theme is Color Our World , and the library is hosting a variety of events for children, families, teens, and adults.  Register online at www.allencountylibrary.com.  Those who register will receive the necessary materials to help navigate the Summer Reading Program.  Rules, a schedule of events, and other information will be provided at the library. Kids who turn in their reading logs on time will receive gift cards to local restaurants. Adults and teens will also have the chance to earn prizes.

On Tuesday, July 1, at 1:00 pm, Animal Tales will be here. The Animal Alliances program will introduce and explore the topic of animal classifications. Participants will meet and learn about a member of each of the following animal types: birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, invertebrates, and possibly even a fish.

On Tuesday, June 24 at 1:00 pm, Barry Mitchell will present The Show of Many Colors and a Chicken.  He will combine buckets of colorful excitement in a fun-filled collage. Sam the turtle is back as a wisecracking art critic. Hyena wants to be appreciated for his chicken scratches. And Mr. Barry brings a kaleidoscope of colorful magic to inspire the artist in all of us. Wear your most colorful clothes and join us for buckets of funny stuff. All colors welcome except for Pickle Green. Leave your pickles at home, please. This program is designed for kids grades K-6.
