Summer reading is winding down. THANK YOU, Pizza Hut, for donating gift certificates for personal pan pizzas to 194 kids who turned in their reading logs on time. We appreciate your support.

It’s been a fantastic summer, thanks to the parents, grandparents, and caregivers who registered and attended their children for our summer reading program. We appreciate all the workers at the CORE and the Boys and Girls Clubs who included their kids in Summer Reading. It was wonderful to see our library active with kids and teens. Please, keep coming weekly. We hope you’ll make visiting the library a part of your weekly routine.

On Friday, August 5, at 6:00 pm, families with children five years and under are invited to stop by our First Friday booth in front of the library for Kindergarten Readiness. Is your child ready for the classroom? Parents will learn teacher expectations for students entering kindergarten. Parents will also pick up skills they can use to begin preparing their children for kindergarten. Parents will receive free classroom materials until we run out of supplies. Kids will have the opportunity to complete a chalk obstacle course and more. We hope to see you there.

Library News for Wednesday, July 13, 2022

The library building is open to the public on Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am – 7:00 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.

We need families with elementary-age children to participate in Prime Time Family Reading, a six-week reading, discussion and storytelling program that starts on Thursday, July 14, 2022. We’ll serve a light meal at 5:00 pm. and start the storytelling/discussion at 5:30 pm. Call 270-237-3861 to register your family today. Space is limited to ten families, and childcare will be provided for infants and toddlers after the meal. The Kentucky Humanities Council and the Allen County Public Library provided funds for this program.

On July 14 at 2:00 pm, teens are invited to make jellyfish lanterns as a part of our summer reading program, Oceans of Possibilities, and on Tuesday, July 21, kids 12 and under are invited to Barry Mitchell’s magic show at 1:00 pm.

Media Release -COVID-19 Closure Information

The Allen County Public Library will close at 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2020, and will remain closed through Sunday, April 5, 2020.  We currently plan to reopen on Monday, April 6.  2020.

Please do not return library materials until we reopen. There will be no charges for overdue materials. We will automatically renew any items checked out.

Please take this opportunity to access our digital collections on our website at www.allencountylibrary.com.

Please understand, decisions such as this are difficult but are being made to mitigate the harm to library patrons and staff. These measures can change at any time, and could be extended if local officials determine extending the closure will be beneficial to reduce the spread of illness.
