We’ll keep to our regular story hour schedule through June for preschool children. We meet on Tuesday at 10:00 am and Saturday’s at 1:00 pm. Toddler Time is Thursday at 10:00.

If you want to learn to knit or crochet, Loose Ends will teach you. They meet every Tuesday at 3:30. Supplies are provided for beginners.yarn

Library News for March 16, 2016

Lego My Library will meet on Saturday, March 19  from 11:00 – Legos12:30. Members will be separated into age groups and build unique creations that will be displayed for three weeks. Library patrons will vote on their favorites and all participants will have a chance to win prizes by attending. We hope your kids will plan to join the Lego My Library Club every third Saturday of the month.

Our Youth Easter Egg hunt is scheduled for Tuesday, March 22 at 10:00 am.  All children who join the egg hunt will receive a free book to keep.

On Saturday, March 26 at 1:00 pm, local author Tammy Wilson’s will be at the library to sign her book, Something Happened: A True Story of Deglovement. Copies of her book will be available for purchase.

Library News for March 9, 2016

Our craft group, Loose Ends is partnering with the Allen County shaken_babyHealth Department to raise awareness of shaken baby syndrome. Loose Ends is knitting/crocheting purple baby hats for new mothers to remind them that the crying is temporary. You can pick up a skein of purple yarn at the library and knit/crochet a baby hat.  If you don’t know how to knit/crochet, don’t worry, Loose Ends will teach you.  They meet every Tuesday at 3:30 pm.

The Scottsville Art Guild, in partnership with the Allen County Public Library, is offering and Adult Drawing Class on Saturday, March 12 at 10:00 am. Supplies will be provided for this free program, however, you must pre-register as space is limited Call 237-3861 or stop by the library’s circulation desk.

On Tuesday, March 16 at 3:30 pm, Teens are invited to a St. Patty’s Day Party.  We’ll have green food, dig for four-leaf clovers, make Shamrock Slime, and more. Call 270-237-3861 and pre-register or stop by the circulation desk.

Have you ever wondered why the sky is blue? If so, you’ve pondered the same mystery as Plato, Leonardo DaVinci and Sir Isaac Newton. Students,  ages 10-18, are invited to join us on Monday, Feb. 22 at 5:00 pm for Sky in a Bottle as a part of our Serious About  Science series. Dollarphotoclub_84395421 Registration is open for Prime Time Family Reading.  Space is limited to thirty families. Join us for weekly storytelling, reading and discussion sessions featuring award-winning children’s books. By participating in PRIME TIME, you will help your child enjoy reading, share ideas, and plant the seeds for future academic success. A free meal will be provided as well as child care for siblings. Preschool children can attend Story Hour on Tuesday at 10:00 am and Saturday’s at 1:00 pm. Toddler Time is Thursday at 10:00 am. We hope visiting the library with your child is part of your weekly routine.

We’re starting a youth Lego club @ the Allen County Public Library. Lego My Library will meet on February 20 from 11:00 – 12:30. Members will be separated into age groups. Lego creations will be displayed for three weeks and library patrons will vote on their favorites.  All participants will have a chance to win prizes by attending. We hope your kids will plan to join Lego My Library Club every third Saturday of the month.

Loose Ends will teach you to knit or crochet on every Tuesday at 3:30. Supplies are provided for beginners

The Kentucky Humanities Council, Inc will present Elizabeh Lawson as Charlotte Dupey: Suing for Freedom. On Monday, February 15 at 6:00 pm. Charlotte Dupey was born in Cambridge, Maryland, in 1787 and was sent to Lexington when she was 18 years old. When Henry Clay was appointed Secretary of State, his family and the Dupuy family moved to Washington, D.C. and Charlotte  found a lawyer who filed papers on her behalf, suing the Clay family for her freedom and that of her children. Come hear Charlotte’ story at the Allen County Public Library on Monday, February 15 at 6:00 pm.

Library News for January 14, 2015

The library will be closed on Monday, January 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will re-open on Tuesday, January 20 at 9:00 am.

If you received a new electronic device such as an e-reader or smart phone and need help learning how to download free digital material from the library, call 237-3861 and make an appointment with Ms. Amanda or Ms. Jamie.  We’ll be happy to help you.

We’ll help you keep your New Year’s Resolutions with our program offerings in January.  On Thursday, January 15, Dustin Richards from The Core will present a program on choosing the right fitness plan. We’ll learn the difference between Zumba, Yoga, Water Aerobics and more. Space is limited. Sign up by calling 237-3861. This program will be offered at 12:00 noon and at 5:30 pm.  We’ll have a prize drawing for a one-month family membership to The Core.

On Thursday, January 22, Angela Smotherman, dietetic intern with the Allen County Health Department, will present a program to learn about smoking cessation, tips for eating healthy on the run, and exercises you can do at your desk.  This program will be offered at 12:00 noon and again at 5:30 pm on Thursday, January 22. Library News for December 10, 2014

Kid’s will want to sign up for The Polar Express. Come to the library on December 15 at 5:00 pm. Mrs. Amanda has planned special games and crafts. Of course we’ll also read The Polar Express. Don’t be late. You don’t want to miss the train.

The library offers homework help through a new service called “Tutor.com.” Library patrons have access to on-demand, one-to-one Academic and Career Tutoring from 4:00 pm – 11:00 am, seven days per week. All you need is a library card.  Tutor.com covers 25+ subject areas, including AP/IB, Spanish language support and Test-Prep.
