Allen County Public Library News – August 28, 2024

The Library will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2024 for the Labor Day Holiday.  Unless it’s a holiday, the library building is open to the public on Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. – to 7:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – to 4:00 p.m.

Toddlers are invited to Toddler Time on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. Parents/guardians may choose from two Pre-K Story Hours for their preschool-age child. We’ll offer the same program on Tuesday and  Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Call 270-237-3861 to reserve your child’s place, or click on the events tab @ www.allencountylibrary.com. On Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., Home-School children ages 5-12 are invited to enrichment programs. The Inbetweens, students ages 10-12, meet on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. We hope you’ll make visiting the library a part of your weekly routine.

Our annual Friends of the Library book sale will take place on September 20 and 21. If you have gently used books you’d like to donate, please drop them by the library. We can’t have a book sale without books, and we appreciate the community’s support.

It’s been a fun adventure this summer with Summer Reading programs for kids, teens, and adults. We had 369 kids turn in reading logs. Thank you to all the parents, guardians, and caretakers who brought children to the library this summer. Thank you to the Friends of the Library for donating money so we could buy summer reading prizes.

Summer reading logs are due by 4:00 pm on Friday, July 19, 2024. You can turn them in early if you can’t be here on Friday. Kids who registered for summer reading and turn in their reading logs on time will win $5.00 gift cards from Dairy Queen, Sonic, and Tropical Treats. Thanks to the Friends of the Library for providing funds to buy summer reading prizes. It’s been a fun adventure this summer with Summer Reading programs for kids, teens, and adults.

On Monday, July 22 at 1:00 pm, teens are invited for an adventure movie. On Tuesday, July 23 at 1:00 pm, kids are invited to Animal Tales, and adults are invited to a program on foraging on July 23, at 5:30 pm. There’s something for everyone at the Allen County Public Library.

Discover the endless possibilities of our Maker Space during Tinker Time every Friday at 2:00 p.m. Whether you’re a seasoned creator or just starting out, our equipment—a Poster Printer, Embroidery Machine, Cricut Vinyl Cutter, and more—is at your disposal. Register online for project assistance, or drop by to explore the space and ask questions. Start your creative journey with us today.

Adventure begins at your library, and we have summer reading programs for children, teens, and adults.  Did you know the average child loses two months of reading skills over the summer? You can help avoid the slide by registering your child for Summer Reading and encouraging your child to read for twenty minutes daily. We have thousands of books from which to choose.

On Monday, July 15 at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, teens are invited to Campfire Painting, and at 5:00 pm, children are invited Squish painting. Registration is required as supplies are limited.

On Tuesday, July 17 at 1:00 pm, kids are invited to meet Bobber the Water Safety Dog, and at 5:00 pm, adults are invited to World Trivia. There’s something for everyone at the Allen County Public Library
