Allen County Library News – January 1 – 2025

The library will be closed on Wednesday, January 1, for New Year’s Day. Unless it’s a holiday, the library is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Registration is open for Prime Time Family Reading. Prime Time introduces children and their families to the humanities through storytelling and discussions that build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. At the heart of the program are carefully chosen, humanities-rich children’s books. Participating families receive copies of each book to begin or expand their own libraries. We’ll meet on Thursdays starting January 16, 2025. A meal will be served at 5:00 and we’ll start the program at 5:30 pm.

Toddlers are invited to Toddler Time on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. Parents/guardians may choose from two Pre-K Story Hours for their preschool-age child. We’ll offer the same program on Tuesday and  Thursday at 10:00 a.m. On Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., Home-School children ages 5-12 are invited to enrichment programs. The Inbetweens, students ages 10-12, meet on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. Call 270-237-3861 to reserve your child’s place, or click on the events tab @ www.allencountylibrary.com.We hope you’ll make visiting the library a part of your weekly routine.

Tinker Time in our Maker Space is open every Friday at 2:00 pm. Register online for help with your projects, or stop by to explore the space and ask questions. Equipment includes a Poster Printer, Embroidery Machine, Cricut Vinyl Cutter, Ellison Die Cut Shapes, and more. Sign up today.

New books for young adults include: Don’t Let the Forest In by C.G. Drews, Cyberpunk: Omnibus: Vol. 1 by Dark Horse Books, The Scarlet Veil by Shelby Mahurin, Under the Oak Tree Vol. One by Suji Kim and Cascade Failure by L.M. Sagas.

New books on the adult fiction shelf include: Shanghai by Joseph Kanon, Rental House by Weike Want, The Drowned by John Banville, Tea with Elephants by Robin Jones Gunn, One Last Stand by Susan May Warren, and The December Market by RaeAnne Thayne.

New books on the adult non-fiction shelf include: Resist: How a Century of Young Black Activists Shaped America by Rita Omakha, A Hunger to Kill by Kim Mager with Lisa Pulitzer, Let’s Bake! by Gail Sweeney

Getting a free library card is easy. Call 270-237-3861 or visit us with a photo I.D. and recently postmarked mail. Once you have your card, a world of books, movies, and music will be at your fingertips. And remember, your voice matters.
