Library News for January 10, 2024

The library will be closed on Monday, January 15, 2024 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Unless it’s a holiday, the library building is open to the public Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. – to 7:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – to 4:00 p.m.

Toddlers are invited to Toddler Time on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. Parents/guardians may choose from two Pre-K Story Hours for their preschool-age child. We’ll offer the same program on Tuesday and  Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Call 270-237-3861 to reserve your child’s place, or click on the events tab @ www.allencountylibrary.com. On Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., Home-School children ages 5-12 are invited to enrichment programs. The Inbetweens, students ages 10-12, meet on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. We hope you’ll make visiting the library with your children a part of your weekly routine.

Tinker Time in our Maker Space is open every Friday at 2:00 pm. Register online for help with your projects, or stop by to explore the space and ask questions. Equipment includes a Poster Printer, Embroider Machine, Cricut Vinyl Cutter, and more. Sign up today.

If learning something new is one of your New Year’s resolutions, check out our collection of over 500 free online classes. The most popular classes completed last year include: Life Coaching 101, Resume Writing 101, Computer Literacy Level 1 – Computer Basics, Basic Math 101, Meteorology Fundamentals, Essay Writing 101, Introduction to Medical Coding, Digital Photography 101, How to Write a Grant Proposal, and Problem-Solving Strategies. On Saturday, January 20, at 11:00 am, all school-age kids are invited to Lego My Library. This month, we’re throwing a Lego-tastic celebration for National Lego Day, and we’re going full freestyle! So come ready to grab some bricks and get creative.

If you are a fan of the Allen County Public Library, we invite you to join the Friends of the Library. The Friends of the Library will have a meeting on Tuesday, January 16 at 2:00 pm. The Friends of the Library extend our capacity through fundraising, volunteer and program support, and through advocacy. If you love the library, you’ll fit right in.

New books on the adult fiction shelf include: Holmes Marple & Poe by James Patterson and Brian Sitts, The Night Island by Jayne Ann Krentz, Goodbye Girl by James Grippando, and Harbor Lights by James Lee Burke.

New books on the adult non-fiction shelf include: Entangled Life: The Illustrated Edition: How Fungi Make Our Worlds by Merlin Sheldrake, Areté: Activate Your Heroic Potential by Brian Johnson, and The Camping and Hiking Encyclopedia by Kathryn Hulick.

To get a free library card, call 270-237-3861 or stop by the library with a photo I.D. and recently postmarked mail. Then, you’ll be able to check out or download library materials. Also, please let us know if there’s a particular book, movie, or music artist you would like added to the collection. We’ll do our best to fulfill your requests.
