If you’d like to learn to knit or crochet, join us for Strings’ n Things on Wednesdays at 2:30. We’ll provide new participants with a starter kit. All you need to do is register for the program under our events tab and show up.

On Monday, August 14, at 5:00 pm, adults are invited to learn the Balloon Kiss Pour Paint art technique. Space is limited, so register under our events tab. All supplies will be provided.

Thank you to everyone who participated in Summer Reading. Three-hundred and forty-eight (348) children turned in reading logs and logged 130,421 minutes of reading this summer. Kids earned a $5.00 gift card to Sonic and a $5.00 gift card to Dairy Queen. That’s $3,480 spent on gift cards, of which $1500 was rewarded to the library via a grant from Save the Children. By rewarding the kids with prizes for reading, we hope we’ve helped them avoid the summer slide.

We’d like to give a big THANK YOU! shout-out to Pizza Hut, which donated a personal pan pizza coupon to the kids who turned in reading logs.

On Tuesday, June 27, at 1:00 pm, the Allen County Ambulance Service and the Scottsville Fire Department will show off their equipment and vehicles so families can see what they do every single day. The Fire Department will also repair our flagpole and install a new flag in front of the library. Thank you to Fire Chief Mike Cooksey and Police Chief Darren Tabor for coming to our rescue.

On Tuesday, June 27, at 5:30 pm, adults are invited to learn how to make a terrarium, a small garden housed in sealed glass containers. You can create a small terrarium and take it home to watch it grow.

Did you know the average child loses two months of reading skills over the summer? You can help avoid the slide by registering your child for Summer Reading and encouraging your child to read for twenty minutes daily. We have thousands of books from which to choose. There’s something for everyone at the Allen County Public Library.

This year’s summer reading theme is All Together Now! We have special programs and prizes for every age group. Our summer reading kick-off event begins on Friday, June 2, at 6:00 pm on the library’s front porch. Families can register for the summer reading, fish for prizes, throw a water balloon at a librarian and complete the chalk obstacle course.
