Library News for July 4, 2018

The library will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th for Independence Day. We’ll re-open at 9:00 am on Thursday, July 5th.   We hope you have a safe and wonderful holiday.

In partnership with the Scottsville Art Guild, we are offering a youth acrylic art class (ages18 and under) on Saturday, July 7 at 1:00 pm.  Space is limited to 15 registrants.  Call 270-237-3861 to register for this free program.

Every summer  the library plans programs for children and teens to keep their brains growing. This year is no different. Our theme LIBRARIES ROCK will incorporate musical elements and geology into our summer programs.

Kids who registered and turn in summer reading logs will win prizes.  Our summer reading store will include guitars, bicycles, geology kits, activity trackers, and more.  Winners with the most reading time logged will get to choose prizes first. Thank you to the Friends of the Allen County Public Library for helping with the stocking of our prize store.

Summer reading programs start at 1:00 pm. Kids 12 and under are invited to these events:  July 11 Science Rocks with Jason Lindsey, July 12 Visitors from Lost River Cave, July 19 Reader’s Rock Magic and Comedy Show with Barry and Sam the Turtle, July 24 Rockin’ Crafts,  and July 26 Born to be Wild with Animal Tales.

Teens are invited to these summer reading programs: July 9 Rock Painting, July 11 Making Music, July 16 Musical Games, July 18 Musical Science, July 23 Mystery Escape Room, July 25 Edible Art.

There will be a rock concert on the library’s front porch at 6:00 pm on July 17 featuring The Flaming Hots and other local talent.  For a complete schedule of events, visit our website at www.allencountylibrary.com.

Have you ever considered joining a book club?  Join us on Tuesday, July 17 at 1:00 pm as we discuss this month’s book, The Stars are Fire by Anita Shreve. Just stop by the circulation desk and ask for a copy. We’d love to have you join us for the discussion.

School aged kids are invited to join our Lego Club. It meets the third Saturday each month.  This month we’ll meet on July  21 at 11:00 am.

Every Saturday, Crafternoon starts sat 1:00 pm. Students of all ages are invited to attend, but be sure to wear old clothes because crafting can be messy.
