The library invites everyone to join us, along with the Allen County Historical Society, on Monday, August 17, at 6:00 p.m. for a special presentation from the Kentucky Humanities Speakers Bureau. Before there was Minnie Pearl, there was Cousin Emmy. Discover the remarkable story of this legendary Kentucky pioneer through an engaging portrayal of her life, music, and lasting legacy right here close to home. Light refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Allen County Historical Society.

Books on the Square Book Club will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, to discuss this month’s selection, The Story She Left Behind by Patti Callahan Henry. Regular children’s programming will resume in September. Until then, adults are invited to join Strings ‘n Things every Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. to learn new knitting and crochet techniques while completing fun projects.

We also have two wonderful book clubs that meet on the third Tuesday of each month. Books on the Square Book Club will meet Tuesday, August 18, at 1:00 p.m. to discuss The Story She Left Behind by Patti Callahan Henry. Later that evening at 5:00 p.m., Mystery at the Library Book Club will discuss The Vacation by T.M. Logan. Summer Reading 2026
Summer Reading is winding down, and what an amazing summer we have had unearthing stories and experiences with you! Reading logs for Youth Summer Reading are due by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17. Logs for Teen Summer Reading and Adult Summer Reading BINGO sheets are due by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24. We can’t wait to celebrate our readers and shower them with the prizes they have earned!

Teens can sign up for an End of Summer Movie with Ms. Abby on Monday, July 20, at 1:00 p.m. We are also wrapping up summer fun for youth and families with the rescheduled Touch-a-Truck event on Tuesday, July 21, at 1:00 p.m. with the City of Scottsville’s Bard Crew and equipment. The Mini-Library at Cedar Springs #1 is now open! We extend our sincere thanks to the Scottsville-Allen County Chamber of Commerce for hosting the ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 1. We also appreciate the support of our county and city officials who joined us in celebrating literacy and expanding library services within our community. The Mini-Library follows the same operating hours as the Allen County Public Library.

Join us on Saturday, July 11, at 1:00 p.m. for a special America 250 program presented in partnership with the Kentucky Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Patrick Gilmore Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Allen County Public Library.

Library Hours & Digital Library

The Allen County Public Library is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Patrons can also enjoy access to our digital library 24 hours a day, seven days a week. With an active library card, you can borrow free e-books, audiobooks, and television shows through the Libby and Hoopla apps.

Have you visited our new Mini-Library yet? Located beside the Cedar Springs #1 Fire Department, the Mini-Library offers books, puzzle exchanges, and FREE Wi-Fi access for the community. Visitors are encouraged to borrow a book, leave a book for others to enjoy, or simply stop by and connect. The Mini-Library follows the same operating hours as the main library.

July has arrived, and there are still plenty of exciting Summer Reading activities ahead for all ages. Teens can join Ms. Abby and Ms. Mariah for Cave Art on Monday, July 6, at 1:00 p.m. Families and children will once again enjoy a visit from Jason Lindsey and his Science and STEM On-the-Go program on Tuesday, July 7, at 1:00 p.m. Adults ages 18 and older are invited to test their knowledge of all things Jurassic Park during themed trivia on July 7 at 5:00 p.m.  Please visit our website, www.allencountylibrary.com to register for teen and adult programs during the summer months.

We’re having a blast this summer unearthing stories with you! We have something planned for everyone again next week.  Children and families are invited to join Ms. Melissa on Tuesday, June 30, at 1:00 p.m. as speakers and educators from Mammoth Cave National Park share information about the cave system and the fascinating archaeology discovered there.

Teens can join Ms. Abby on Wednesday, July 1, at 1:00 p.m. for a Teen Drop-In and Hangout program featuring passive activities that will help participants earn entries into our prize drawing.

Summer Reading is in full swing at the library, and we are enjoying every minute of it! We invite everyone to join us next week for exciting programs for all ages.

On Monday at 1:00 p.m., teens can join Ms. Abby for ACPL Teen Hub. This program highlights why the library is the perfect place to relax, connect with friends, and simply enjoy being yourself.

On Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., children will be entertained by Barry Mitchell as he presents the Fossil Funhouse Show, featuring magic tricks, puppets, and plenty of laughs.

Also, on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., adults can join Ms. Chelsea for a collage class designed to help participants tell their own unique stories through art.
